Incoterms 2000

International trade can be a risky business.  If merchandise is lost or damaged for any reason, communications between the buyer and seller can disintegrate to the point of a lawsuit.

In order to prevent misunderstanding and costly error, great care is needed while defining the initial contract between the buyer and seller.  By clearly defining respective responsibilities, the possibilities of misunderstanding and dispute can be greatly reduced.

Dunlap International offers a seminar as well as a brochure with its interpretation of the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) Incoterms 2000. ICC Incoterms are standard international trade definitions.

Incoterms 2000 Brochure

Dunlap International's interpretation of Incoterms 2000 is an easy-to-use single page grid. The document shows how responsibility and charges are divided between an importer and exporter depending on terms of the sale.

The 13 Incoterms are listed horizontally at the top of the page and each responsibility or charge is then listed vertically on the left side of the page (see sample - left). Either BUYER or SELLER is shown in the grid as the responsible party. The brochure also explains when risk transfers for each term.

This interpretation of Incoterms 2000 is intended as a guideline only and does not replace the need for careful study and application of the original material. To learn more about ICC and Incoterms 2000, see the links below.
